Crochet Bag

My sister's birthday is coming up and I made her a Crochet Slouch Hat. I decided to make a matching bag. She wanted plain things but I just had to add a strip of pink because I'm girly like that. Haha

NOTE: In the beginning of each round, the ch 2 does not count as a dc stitch. You will always start your first stitch in the same stitch as the ch 2.

Materials

I used Red Heart Worsted Weight 

6 mm hook

Stitch marker

Tapestry needle

Stitches used

Double Crochet - dc

Single Crochet - sc

Chain - ch

Slip Stitch - sl

Round 1 - You have 2 options. I like to use the magic circle (option 2).  

Option 1 ch 4, sl into the first ch. This creates a circle.

Ch 2, then 12 dc into the middle of the circle, sl to join in the top of the beginning ch 2. 

Option 2 (what I did): Starting with a magic ring, Ch 2 & 12 dc into the ring. The ch 2 does not count as a dc stitch, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2, pull tail to tighten (12 dc)

Round 2 - ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around (including the same ch where you ch 2). The ch 2 does not count as a dc stitch so the first one will look like there's 3 chains, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2  (24 dc)

Round 3 - ch 2,  *1 dc in the first stitch, 2 dc in next stitch,* repeat from * around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (36 dc)

Round 4 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch* repeat from * around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (48 dc)

Round 5 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (60 dc)

Round 6 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch* repeat from * around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc)

Round 7 thru 11 - ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc) 

I changed colors here. If you choose not to, you can continue the dc for another 3 rounds. So it will be from rounds 7-14.

Round 12 - ch 1, sc in each stitch around. sl into the top of the beginning ch 1 (72 sc)

Round 13 & 14 - ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc)

Changing back to the first color

Round 15 - ch 1, sc in each stitch around. sl into the top of the beginning ch 1 (72 sc)

Round 16 - ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch around, sl into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc)

Round 17 (starting the handles) - ch 1, 1 sc into the next 10 stitches, ch 16, skip 16 stitches and sc into the next stitch, 1 sc in the next 20 stitches, ch 16, skip 16 stitches and sc into the next stitch, 1 sc into the next 10 stitches, DO NOT SL in the beginning. You will work in a continuous round now. Place a stitch marker here. 

Round 18 thru 21 - 1 sc in each stitch around for 4 rounds (or however thick you want it). Move your stitch marker if needed at the end of each round. 

sl when you're done. Fasten off and weave yarn into your work.

Crochet Slouch Hat

Crochet Slouch Hat - Average adult size. Size can be adjusted slightly by using a smaller or larger hook.

NOTE: In the beginning of each round, the ch 2 does not count as a dc stitch. You will always start your first stitch in the same stitch as the ch 2.

Round 1-

Round 3 - ch 2, *1 dc in the first stitch, 2 dc in next stitch,* repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the beginning ch 2 (36 dc)

Round 4 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch* repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the beginning ch 2 (48 dc)

Round 5 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the beginning ch 2 (60 dc)

Round 6 - ch 2, *1 dc in the next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch* repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc)

Round 7 thru 15 - ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch around, sl st into the top of the beginning ch 2 (72 dc) 

Round 16 thru 25 - ch 1, sc in each stitch around. sl st into the top of the beginning ch 1 

NOTE: You may choose to go on a continuous round for the single crochets using a stitch marker to mark your start of each row.(72 sc)

sl st when you're done. 

Cut yarn and weave in ends with tapestry needle. Add buttons if you'd like. I used a coconut button on the brown hat.

Crochet Mohair Bonnet

I was trying to crochet a bonnet for a newborn but it turned out bigger than I expected because I was using a larger hook. It's okay though. I wanted matching hats for a sibling newborn photo. Baby girl is 2 and this should fit her head just fine. I think a tie back in the same mohair yarn will look better on the newborn! 

I followed the tutorial here. It was a little confusing and in the end I think I just stopped following the instructions. The problem is I'm not using the same type of yarn and size hook. There's not a whole lot of tutorials using mohair yarn and the written patterns I did find was confusing to follow (or I'm not good at following it).

Crochet Newborn Purple Bonnet

I love making newborn hats because they're so fast to make and so cute! I'm on a roll today! haha. I got the pattern here. The only difference in mine is that I crocheted one less roll and I weaved in the lace to match the number of shell stitches I had.

I know... it's the same hat on different backgrounds. I thought the white lace and ivory ribbons didn't show well in the lighter color background. :) What's with the hearts? Well, it's almost Valentine's Day! So I took photos on my Valentine set up. ♥

Crochet Large Pom Pom Newborn Hat

I saw a pom pom hat on Pinterest and I thought it was the cutest thing! So I made one of my own. It's so darn cute! I can't wait to use it! When I have time (because my whole family is sick with a bad cold) I will come back to this post and include the pattern. I'm excited that I actually learned how to read patterns! Being able to read patterns means there's that much  more projects I can take on! Plus, if I come up with my own pattern, I can share! Who doesn't love free patterns!?!?

Crochet Newborn Baby Girl Hat

My sister is expecting another girl! How come she keeps getting girls and I only get boys? ^_^ She's actually due today. I'm sure she is more than ready for baby girl to come out! I never made it to full term with my 3 boys and I know I was ready waaaay before I gave birth! 

I'm hoping she's up for newborn photos. Most of the time, we're so busy and sleep deprived, taking photos is far from our minds but I hope I can sneak some shots anyway because I know that she will treasure the photos later... they're only newborn for so long and having photos of them is so precious!

So I was at the Dollar Tree and saw these pink puff ball yarns and bought 6 of them! Why? I don't know! Because it's a dollar!!!! They usually sell for $5-$6

Crochet Newborn Hat & Booties Set

Happy New Year!

I spent my NYE 2014 barely hanging on until midnight. We let our 4 year stay up, made popcorn and watched a movie (Despicable Me) and sat in front of the fireplace. As soon as it was midnight, I got ready for bed! I guess that's how it is when you have 3 little boys age 4 and under... always waaaay too tired to stay up. Before the movie started I was determined to finish this cute project...

I made this hat & booties set for a friend who's having a little baby boy & her baby shower is next week. It's actually only my 2nd time completing baby booties. I find that I'm not a fan of making little things haha. It's the feeling I get once i'm done with one of the booties... and then it's "I have to make another matching one?" lol 

Joking aside, I would like to have more practice because I'd like to start make little Amigurumi toys... 

I really wanted to make the hat a newsboy hat but I only had one more button for the hat (I needed 2 for the strip above brim)! I searched my button stash and for some reason all the matching buttons was ONE short of 6! UGH! Well, this works too. This is actually the 2nd hat I made because I had a different button on the hat and was not happy that it didn't match the booties.... soooo I took it off. The problem was I accidently cut the yarn to the hat too and put a big gaping hole in it! Luckily newborn hats are small and don't require too much time to make. 

This cute set will go on top of the DIY Diaper Cake I made!

More Crochet Cowls For Kids

It's mid-December ish and it's finally getting cold... 

My boys won't keep a scarf on so I figured a cowl is harder to slip off.

I liked the Cilantro stitch I found on YouTube. 

I followed Fiber Flux Tutorials. 

I actually made this one for my 4 year old but he was too busy playing games... lol 

so I put it on my 22 month old.

This is a Red Heart Super Saver Yarn using a 6mm hook.

 

Now this one I actually made for him using a chunky yarn and a 9mm hook. Its' basically 3 rows of single crochets and 1 row of double crochet.. & repeat.

 

Crochet Kids Cowls

These cowls are so easy to make. I used two strands of Red Heart Super Saver yarn and a 9mm crochet hook. Crocheting through the back loops only gives it that ribbed look. These are for 3 & 5 year old girls. The foam head is small so it looks like an adult size but I use my 4 year old son as a model which I promised not to show (to hubby) lol.

I realized that I was running out of prettier buttons. Have no fear... more has been ordered! ^_^

 

Anna - Frozen Inspired Crochet Hat
