Crochet Anna Slouchy Beanie

This hat is named after Anna who won this hat in an Instagram giveaway. :)

I was yarn shopping (too often, I think!) and saw this colorful yarn by Red Heart in the color Monet. I'm not a fan of multicolored yarn but I thought "what the heck"

Since Spring is officially in 4 days, something spring and light would be good for this yarn. I didn't have a pattern in mind so I just made one up.

Yarn: Red Heart Monet
Hook: 5.5mm for brim and 6.00mm for hat
Scissors
Tape Measure
Yarn Needle

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch

BRIM:

Starting with the 5.5mm hook

ch 13 (ch less for thinner brim. Ch more for wider brim)
Row 1: 1 hdc into the 2nd 3rd ch from the hook & 1 hdc into the remaining stitches, ch 2
Row 2: hdc into the back loop ONLY all the way across, ch 2
Row 3... Repeat row 2 until desired length. Mine was about 17.5 inches long (for child size)
Join the ends by slip stitching through both ends (or cut yarn and sew together with yarn needle)

Turn inside out so seam is less visible

HAT:

Switch to the 6mm hook (optional)

Round 1: Ch 1, sc all the way around. It's hard to see where to put the hook through. Make sure you end up with even number of stitches. sl st to the beginning of the ch 1.

Round 2: Ch 3 (this counts as a double crochet), 1 dc into the same stitch, *skip a stitch, and 2 dc into the next stitch. Repeat from * all the way around. sl st into the top of the beginning chain 3

The hook is inserted in the space below where you'll put the dc after chaining 3

The hook is inserted into the space where you'll do your next 2 dc

Round 3: Ch 3, 1 dc into the same space below (not stitch). This space is the space between the 2 sets of dc where the skipped stitch is. *2 dc into the next space where the skipped stitch is from previous round. Repeat from * all the way around. sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3

Round 4-13: Repeat rounds 3 until desired height. Mine was about 10" tall.

Cut yarn and weave into each stitch all the way around and cinch it up. Tie knots and weave in ends.

Another version of the same hat in adult size. The hat was 11'' tall when I stopped and the brim is about 22"

Let's face it. Kids things are cute. They're miniature and the kiddos look good modeling anything! Anyone who knows me knows ...
